Oversees daily program operation at the designated apartment complex. This oversight includes day-by-day responsibility of the Independent Living staff, including IL Specialist staff, and the youth that are served. The position is assigned to an on-call rotation.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
The Independent Living Supervisor will supervise the Independent Living Specialist, Independent Living Specialist Trainee, Independent Living Specialist/Skill builder, and Independent Living Program Assistant and will report directly to the Independent Living Manager.

- Provide program orientation to IL Specialist staff, Youth Counselor and Youth Advocates and Provide ongoing training regarding program policies and procedures to IL Staff, Minimum Standards, Code of Virginia and best practice issues
- Maintain positive, professional relationship with staff, youth, referral agencies and community liaisons and conduct presentations to community agencies upon request
- Ensure compliance with program policies and procedures, Minimum Standards and Code of Virginia
- Interface with community resources, referral sources, Family Assessment and Planning Teams (FAPT) and Community Planning and Management Teams (CPMT)
- Manage the IL Budget in addition to meeting all reporting and deadline requirements for restricted funds
- Coordinate all aspects of apartment selection and furnishings as well as repairs/maintenance deemed necessary. Ensure apartments are move-in ready for client placement. Maintain close working relationship with landlords and/or owners of the apartment complexes
- Provide supervision/consultation to IL staff in other offices
- Be available to assist staff in the event of an emergency, for consultation, and assistance and on call back up support
- Review and approve supervisee forms prior to submission to the Finance and Human Resource (HR) Departments
- Provide a 6 month evaluation for new hires and an annual evaluation for each supervisee
- Participate in the interviewing and hiring of IL staff as well as Facilitate/attened IL team meetings and Review and approve supervisees’ paperwork
- Supervise IL staff, including IL Specialist, Youth Counselor, and Youth Advocates
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
- Participate in regularly scheduled supervision with supervisor and perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide on-site assistance as requested by HR, Finance and Information Systems Departments
- Schedule, facilitate and conduct face-to-face interviews with prospective youth and their custodians
- Assess youths’ readiness for participation in the Independent Living Program and Gather necessary information on youth being considered for placement and review all material submitted and review all referrals with direct supervisor to determine acceptance or denial of youth referred
- Follow IL Policies and Procedures regarding admissions process and paperwork requirements
- Educate Departments of Social Services on the day to day operation of the IL Program and Interface with community resources, referral sources, Family Assessment and Planning Teams (FAPT) and Community Planning and Management Teams (CPMT) and other providers

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:
A Bachelor’s degree in a human services field is required with five years providing casework services to children and families.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described herein represent those an employee encounters while performing the position's essential functions. The employee regularly works in an office environment and occasionally in the field. Due to the nature of the work, the incumbent may be exposed to situations of a highly emotional nature; incumbents are expected to use verbal skills to resolve interpersonal situations to achieve desired results independently. Incumbents are exposed to various living situations and lifestyles. Work is generally completed regularly during weekdays; however, daily work hours will vary. Participation in an on-call rotation and completion of job duties outside of normally scheduled hours is required. Work is subject to frequent interruptions, and noise levels are varied based on the work locations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that an employee in this position must meet, with or without reasonable accommodations, to perform the essential functions successfully. Physical activities required are finger dexterity necessary to operate equipment used in the position, effective communication and seeing or hearing verbal cues. Walking for up to sixty-seven percent of the time, sitting up to sixty-seven percent of the time, bending/stooping for up to sixty-seven percent of the time, lifting/pushing/pulling no more than twenty pounds, and minimal unassisted lifting associated with the job duties are required. When accessing various locations, the incumbent must climb stairs and ramps. This position requires driving to various locations approximately twenty to thirty percent of the employee's working time. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
